Getting Your Credit Report

There are various methods for getting a copy of your credit report.  Some are easy; other methods are more complicated.  Sometimes it’s free; sometime it involves a fee.  Here’s a summary of many of the popular methods:

Free Annual Credit Reports

Under Federal Law consumers are eligible to get their free annual credit report from each of the 3 national credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) once a year.  You can apply online, by phone or through the mail.  More information is available from the official central website designated by the Federal Trade Commission at: www.annualcreditreport.com.

Some find this online system cumbersome and confusing.  Others have been quite satisfied with the system.  If you have difficulty with the system, or you have already got your free credit report for the year as allowed under law, there are several other alternatives to get your credit report.

Online 3 Bureau Merged Credit Reports and Credit Scores

3 Bureau Merged Credit Reports are credit reports that contain information from all 3 of the national credit bureaus in one merged credit report.  The advantage of such a product is that you can generally get all your credit from one provider that includes information from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion in a common format that may allow you to compare your credit from each credit bureau side by side.  This site offers a 3 Bureau Merged Credit Report with all 3 scores for $29.99.  Follow this link to apply for your 3 Bureau Credit Report. You may also obtain all 3 of your credit scores for an additional charge.
